Clemson Women’s Soccer Team Falls to Furman in Overtime on the Road

GREENVILLE, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to Furman by a score of 1-0 in overtime on Friday night at Stone Stadium in Greenville.  The Tigers fall to 2-1 with the loss, while the Paladins improve to 2-1.

There was no scoring between the two teams in regulation, but the Paladins put the game’s lone goal on the board less than three minutes into the first overtime period.  Stephanie DeVita’s shot was launched from 22 yards out curved in to the near post past the outstretched arms of Clemson freshman goalkeeper Hunter Rittgers.

For the game, the Tigers took 14 shots to the Paladins’ 10, and Clemson had four corner kicks to Furman’s one.  Rittgers recorded one save in the contest, and Rose Hull tallied six for the Paladins.

“I am disappointed to have not won that game,” said Head Coach Eddie Radwanski.  “We have only ourselves to blame.  We controlled the game, but were wasteful with our changes.  We lacked that moment of composure around the goal.  We allowed Furman to hang around, and they scored a good goal in overtime.”

Clemson will return home to Historic Riggs Field on Sunday to face Presbyterian College.  The game between the Tigers and Blue Hose will begin at 2:00 PM and will be broadcast live on the internet via TigerCast on ClemsonTigersHD.  Admission is free to all home women’s soccer games.
