Clemson Women’s Soccer Program Signs 11 Players for 2013

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson women’s soccer head coach Eddie Radwanski has announced the signing of 11 players to national letters of intent for the 2013 season.

“This is an exciting day for all of us as we welcome an outstanding group of student-athletes to our Clemson family,” said Radwanski.  “This diverse class is one of the top in the nation, and brings a wealth of talent and competitive character to our program.  These players definitely share our ambition for success.  We have enjoyed getting know each of them during the recruiting process, and look forward to watching them develop both as soccer players and young women.”

The 11 players, who hail from six different states, and two countries, are:  Tori Andreski (Wilkesboro, NC), Catrina Atanda (Belle Mead, NJ), Emily Byorth (Dublin, OH), Gabby Byorth (Dublin, OH), Anna Davis (Walterboro, SC), Abby Jones (Auburn, AL), Paige Reckert (Cary, NC), Kailen Sheridan (Whitby, Ontario), Katie Sprouse (Bixby, OK), Claire Wagner (Cary, NC) and Jenna Weston (Mooresville, NC).

Below is detailed bio information for each 2013 signee:

Claire Wagner5-10 – DefenderCary, NC (Panther Creek HS/CASL Chelsea Ladies)

Named a National “Player to Watch” by TopDrawerSoccer…attended Panther Creek High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll…a member of the United States U-17 Women’s National Team that competed at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan…played club soccer for the CASL Chelsea Ladies 94 team under Head Coach Damon Nahas in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL)…also played five years for the North Carolina State ODP team (2007-11)…was selected to the Region III ODP Regional team four times (2009-12)…with her Region team, has faced international competition in Italy, Germany and Costa Rica…selected to two US Club id2 National camps (2010, 2011)…traveled to England with the ECNL/id2 International team in 2011…selected for her first US Soccer National ID Camp in 2009, which culminated with a call up to the U-17 National Team camp in 2011…CASL club team won back-to-back ECNL National Championships in 2011 and 2012, and was ECNL National semifinalist in 2010…with CASL, has been a part of two Region III Premier League East Titles (2009-2010), two NC State Cup Championships (2009, 2011) and a USYSA Regional Championship in 2009.

Kailen Sheridan5-10 – GoalkeeperWhitby, Ontario (Father Leo Austin CHS/U17 Canadian National Team)

Starting goalkeeper for the U-17 Canadian National Team that reached the quarterfinals at the 2012 U-17 World Cup in Azerbaijan, coached by Bryan Rosenfield…received recognition from the FIFA Women’s World Cup Technical Study Group for her outstanding performance during the tournament…won a Silver Medal in the CONCACAF U-17 World Cup Qualifiers in Guatemala in 2012…one of the top goalkeepers in the world for her age group…has represented her country during International competition on nine occasions, including four shutout performances, posting a 6-1-2 record…since 2010, has been a regular invitee to National Team training camp for Canada’s U-15 and U-17 teams…her Provincial team, Team Ontario, won the gold medal at the Canadian National Championships in 2010 and 2011…trains year round at the Ontario Soccer Center in Toronto…currently plays club soccer for Ajax…was recently invited to attend the next U-20 National Team training camp for Canada…a high school Jr. Basketball Player of the Year award winner in 2010…will graduate from Father Leo Austin CHS this June.

Catrina Atanda5-5, Midfielder/ForwardBelle Mead, NJ (Montgomery HS/PDA)

Named a “Player to Watch” by TopDrawerSoccer…earned four varsity letters in soccer at Montgomery High School where she was voted team MVP in 2010…Montgomery HS team won the New Jersey Group 4 County and Sectional Championships in 2011…led high school team to Somerset County and Skyland Conference Championships in 2012, as the team repeated as Sectional Champs…Montgomery HS team was crowned 2012 New Jersey Group 4 State Champions…scored the game-winning goal in the Sectional Final, and repeated the feat in the State Championship game…played club soccer for the Player Development Academy (PDA) under Coach Seth Korman in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL)…won four NJ state championships with PDA…a two-time member of the NJ ODP State team in 2008 and 2009…also selected for the Regional team representing Region 1 in 2008 and 2009…selected to attend U-17 US Women’s National Team camp in 2011…a member of the U-17 National Team pool in 2012…also selected to ECNL/id2 National Training Camp in 2012…father and uncle played soccer for the University of Virginia.

Paige Reckert5-10 – ForwardCary, NC (Apex HS, CASL Chelsea Ladies) 

Attended Apex High School where she led the team in goals and assists in 2011…earned all-state honors in 2012…a first team all-conference selection in 2012, after finishing the regular season as the conference’s leading scorer…played club soccer for the CASL Chelsea Ladies ’94 team under Head Coach Damon Nahas in the Elite Clubs National League…CASL team won the Y-League National Championship in 2008…club team won two major club tournaments (Disney Showcase & CASL Shootout), the North Carolina State Cup Championship, the USYSA Regional Championship, the Region III Premier League East Title and finished as USYSA National Championship Finalists in 2009…team repeated as Region III Premier League East Champions, and reached the semifinals of the ECNL National Finals in 2010…after winning the NC State Cup Final in 2011, Reckert helped her team win their first ECNL National Championship by scoring three goals in the title game…CASL team repeated as ECNL National Champions in 2012…played for the NC ODP State team in 2010 and 2011…a member of the Region III Regional pool in 2010…selected to the USYSA ODP National Development Training Camp in 2011…selected for the ECNL Player Development Program in 2012.

Gabby Byorth5-5 – DefenderDublin, OH (Bishop Watterson HS/Ohio Premier Eagles)

Named a National “Player to Watch” by TopDrawerSoccer…earned varsity letters in soccer and basketball at Bishop Watterson High School…played club soccer for the Ohio Premier Eagles under Coach Chris King in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL)…club team won the Ohio South State Championship in 2007, 2009 and 2011…a member of the Ohio South ODP State team in 2008 and 2010, and was selected to the Regional player pool representing Region II….selected to attend ODP National Interregional camp in 2011, and was also invited to the National id2 camp that year…an ECNL All-Event team selection in 2011…attended U-17 US Women’s National Team training camps and was a member of the 2012 U-17 National Team pool…selected for the ECNL Player Development Program in 2012… member of National Honors Society…has been on the Honor Roll throughout her high school career…her twin sister, Emily, will also be a freshman on the Clemson women’s soccer team in 2013.

Emily Byorth5-4 – MidfielderDublin, OH (Bishop Watterson HS/Ohio Premier Eagles) 

Named a National “Player to Watch” by TopDrawerSoccer…earned varsity letters in soccer and basketball at Bishop Watterson High School…played club soccer for the Ohio Premier Eagles under Coach Chris King in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL)…club team won the Ohio South State Championship in 2007, 2009 and 2011…a member of the Ohio South ODP State team in 2008 and 2010, and was selected to the Regional player pool representing Region II….selected to attend ODP National Interregional camp in 2011…selected for the ECNL Player Development Program and the prestigious Nike’s “The Chance” National Camp in 2012…member of National Honors Society…has been on the Honor Roll throughout her high school career…her twin sister, Gabby, will also be a freshman on the Clemson women’s soccer team in 2013.

Katie Sprouse5-7 – MidfielderBixby, OK (Bishop Kelley HS/TSC Hurricane)

Named a South Region “Player to Watch” by TopDrawerSoccer…a four-year letterwinner and captain of the varsity soccer team at Bishop Kelley High School…in high school, named Newcomer of the Year in 2010 and Offensive Player of the Year in 2010, 2011 and 2012…an All-District selection in 2010, 2011 and 2012…received the Heartland Tournament MVP award in 2012…Bishop Kelley team won three consecutive Oklahoma State Championships in 2010, 2011 and 2012…played club soccer for the TSC ’95 Hurricane coached by Kerry Shubertin the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL)…was captain of her club team…club team won the USYSA Oklahoma State Cup Championship in 2009, 2010 and 2011…TSC Hurricane reached USYSA Region III Championship game in 2009 and 2010…team was crowned Regional III Champions in 2011, and went on to win USYSA National League Championship that year…a member of the National Honors Society…achieved academic honor roll status throughout her high school career…also involved in Key Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Tori Andreski5-5 – Forward/MidfielderWilkesboro, NC (Wilkes Central HS/North Carolina Fusion Elite)

Named a South Atlantic Region “Player to Watch” by TopDrawerSoccer…earned four varsity letters at Wilkes Central High School…earned all-conference and all-region honors in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and all-state honors in 2011 and 2012…named her high school team’s MVP in 2010 and 2011 and Offensive MVP in 2012…an All-Region III selection in 2012…tallied 132 goals and 69 assists during three seasons…played club soccer for ’94 Carolina Fusion Elite coached by Chad Lorentz…club team won the State and Region III Championship in 2012…club team was a State Cup finalist in 2010…played for NC ODP State team from 2007-2011, and Regional team in 2011…ranked fourth in her academic class.

Abby Jones5-7 – MidfielderAuburn, AL (Auburn HS/Birmingham United)

Named a South Region “Player to Watch” by TopDrawerSoccer…her Auburn High School varsity team won the South Region and Area Championships, and was runner-up in the State Championship in 2011…was her high school team’s leading scorer in 2011, and earned Attacking MVP honors and High School All-Star honors that year…played club soccer for Birmingham United Soccer Association (BUSA), coached by Andrew Brower, in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL)…club team won the Alabama State Championship in 2011…was invited to the US Soccer Regional Training Center in 2011 and 2012…selected to the 2012 ECNL Player Development Program…a member of the National Honor Society…has served as Student Council President and Vice President for her high school class…also involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and currently serves in a leadership position for the group.

Jenna Weston5-10 – DefenderMooresville, NC (Lake Norman HS/Charlotte Soccer Academy)

Named a South Atlantic Region “Player to Watch” by TopDrawerSoccer…a three-time varsity letterwinner in women’s soccer at Lake Norman High School…was selected to the NCSCA 4A All-State team in 2012…also named to the Charlotte Observer First Team in 2012…earned all-region and all-conference honors in 2010, 2011 and 2012…was named a Scholar Athlete from 2009-2012…a member of the North Carolina ODP State team from 2008-2011…captain of her club team, Charlotte Soccer Academy (CSA), from 2009-2012…club team, coached by Adam Denton, played in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL)a Greater Charlotte Soccer Female Player of the Year Nominee in 2012…was selected for the ECNL Elite Player Development Program in 2012…enrolled at Clemson in January of 2013.

Anna Davis5-9 – GoalkeeperWalterboro, SC (Colleton County HS/South Carolina United Mt. Pleasant)

Played varsity soccer and basketball at Colleton County High School…played club soccer for South Carolina United Mount Pleasant (SCUMP) coached by Jeff Hoerner…club team competed in the Region III Premier League…club team won the CASL Shootout and Disney Showcase in 2010…SCUMP team was State Cup Finalist in 2010, 2011 and 2012…a member of the National Honor Society…served her high school as Student Body Treasurer in 2012-2013…has been on the Honor Roll throughout her entire high school career.
