Clemson Head Coach Oliver Purnell

On the game “We preach defense and that is a big part of our game, but it helps to be able to make shots. We were also made our free throws down the stretch. Everything was going well in the first half and we had all cylinders running. The second half we came out a little flat and our post players especially because the virus was catching up to them. Cliff Hammonds’ shot block was definitely the game changing moment.”

On keeping physical “It is hard if everyone isn’t healthy. James Mays is a huge part of our pressure and having him weak really hurt us.”

On Cliff Hammonds “He hit that huge three-pointer, and it helped our mindset. I don’t think our guys really got rattled because we have been in a lot of these games.”

On Winning “It minimizes our struggle down the road. It is always tough to lose two in a row especially in this league so it is great to win this one. Our team is resilient, and they are experienced in these kinds of games so that really helps.”

On Maryland “Going to Maryland is tough, they are right behind us in the standings and it will be a game a lot like this one. Winning that game would solidify third place and boost our resume.”

On Players getting down “I never got the impression that they got down and the crowd stayed in the game too. We have a great crowd and have been successful at home so I think that helped.”
