CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team swept Duke (30-27, 30-27, 30-28) on Sunday afternoon, as the Tigers’ five seniors were honored in their last scheduled home match at Jervey Gym. With the win, the Tigers improve to 17-14 on the season and 6-9 in ACC play, while the Blue Devils fall to 8-17 overall and 5-9 in conference action.
The Tigers won a close game one, 30-27, behind Leslie Finn’s six kills. Laura Jensen added four kills with three digs, while Lori Ashton tallied four kills, three digs and two blocks. Stephanie Haskell posted 12 assists with four digs and two blocks (one solo) in game one. The Blue Devils were led by Sarah Salem with six kills and a .556 hitting percentage. Meghan Brown recorded four digs and Krista Dill led Duke in blocks with two. Arielle Linderman handed out 16 assists with three digs and one block for the Blue Devils.
Clemson took game two, as Ashton tallied eight kills, a .500 hitting percentage and one block. Finn recorded seven kills and led the team in digs with six, while Liz Beckham served up one ace with two kills and one block. Haskell dished out 17 assists with three digs and one block solo in game two for the Tigers. Tassy Rufai paced Duke with five kills and three blocks, while Salem added three kills with five digs. Nana Meriweather led the Blue Devils at the net wi h four blocks in game two. Linderman recorded 13 assists with three digs and one service ace for Duke.
The Tigers clawed back to the top in game three behind Carly Hill’s three service aces. Finn recorded eight kills with six digs, while Beckham tallied six kills with one block. Haskell posted 15 assists with four digs in game three. Dill led Duke with six kills, a .667 hitting percentage and two blocks, while Salem tallied six kills with a .364 hitting percentage. Laura Murphy posted eight digs and Linderman tallied 16 assists with one block for the Blue Devils.
Individually for Clemson, Finn recorded her 15th double-double of the season with 21 kills and 13 digs. Ashton added 15 kills with a .355 hitting percentage and three blocks, while Beckham recorded 11 kills, two blocks and one service ace. Lindsey Abbott tallied 12 defensive saves and Jensen posted eight digs with five kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Haskell handed out 44 assists with 11 digs and three blocks (two solo) for the Tigers.
Duke was led by Salem with 15 kills, a .429 hitting percentage and eight digs, while Dill and Rufai tallied 10 kills each. Dill, Rufai and Meriwether posted five kills apiece for the Blue Devils. Gilman led the team in digs with 10 and Linderman dished out 45 assists with seven digs and two blocks.
The Tigers return to action Nov. 15 as they travel to Atlanta, GA to take on Georgia Tech. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
