Clemson Volleyball Drops Season Opener to Pepperdine

Malibu, CA – The Clemson volleyball team opened its 2002 season Friday night against Pepperdine University at the Howdy’s Pepperdine Classic. The Tigers dropped their season opener 3-0 (25-30, 17-30, 22-30) at Firestone Fieldhouse.

The Tigers were led by sophomore Leslie Finn and junior Marija Zoric. Finn hit .286 for the night and recorded nine kills, while Zoric led the Tigers at the net with four blocks (three solo) and hit .385. Red-shirt sophomore Ryane Beasley also recorded nine kills, and senior Jessi Betcher led Clemson with 26 assists and 12 digs.

The Waves were led by Katie Wilkins with 11 kills, seven service aces and a .280 hitting percentage. Brie Harris recorded eight kills and hit .273 for the night. Monica Mehlhorn tallied 20 assists for Pepperdine, and Breegan Mulligan posted eight digs with a .235 hitting percentage.

Clemson will face Michigan Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (PT) and South Florida at 7:00 p.m. (PT) on the second day of the Howdy’s Pepperdine Classic
