Clemson Volleyball Downs Furman, 3-1

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team defeated the Furman Lady Paladins, 3-1, at Jervey Gym Tuesday night. Clemson improves to 9-15 overall, while Furman’s record stands at 15-11 overall. With the win, the Tigers are 29-0 all-time against the Lady Paladins.

Clemson started out slow, dropping the first game 30-28. The Tigers rebounded and dominated the next three games 30-15, 30-15, 30-16. Clemson outhit Furman .289 to .064 and tallied 15 team blocks compared to the Lady Paladins’ seven blocks. Clemson recorded 64 digs, while Furman tallied 60 defensive saves. The Tigers posted 10 service aces compared to the Lady Paladins’ four aces.

Senior Jodi Steffes led Clemson with 18 kills and a career-best .621 hitting percentage. Lori Ashton tallied 14 kills with a .385 hitting percentage and a match-high seven blocks (one solo). Ryane Beasley recorded 16 digs with four blocks, and Jessi Betcher had a career-high six service aces with 46 assists. Leslie Finn added 11 kills with four blocks (one solo), and Anne Berki tallied six blocks.

Laura Bush led the Lady Paladins with 13 kills, 10 digs, a .357 hitting percentage and six blocks (one solo). Abby Simon added a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Amber Montague had 10 kills. Carrie Rowley tallied 14 digs, while Laura Hooks recorded 13 defensive saves.

Clemson travels to Maryland and Virginia on Friday and Saturday, respectively, to conclude the ACC regular season schedule. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Friday in College Park and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday in Charlottesville.
