CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson cross country teams will start their 2020 seasons on Friday, Oct. 2 at the 2020 FSU XC Invitational. The meet, hosted by Florida State University, will be contested at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. Racing is set to begin at 7:40 a.m. with the men’s 8k, while the women’s 5k will go off at 8:10 a.m.

Clemson will toe the line as part of the Men’s and Women’s Collegiate Invite Divisions. Clemson, Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and the University of Miami will represent the ACC.

“We have to trust in the team, execute our race plan, and then trust in ourselves to be in the race and finish strong,” said Head Coach Vicky Pounds. “We have experienced runners on both men’s and women’s teams and we have to rely on that.

The 2020 season will see many familiar faces sport the Clemson Orange and Regalia as the teams toe the line. All six men that were a part of the 2019 ACC Championships squad in Blacksburg, Va., have returned this season and are joined by a deep stable of returning veterans and emerging talent.

On the women’s side, a strong group of returners will be relied upon to carry the team throughout the 2020 campaign. Laurie Barton, a Clemson native, will look to make her Clemson cross country debut after a historic indoor season during the 2020 campaign. Barton, who transferred to Clemson after two years at Virginia Tech, was a key member of the Hokies’ cross country team in her two seasons with the program.

On the course, look for Barton to run with teammates such as Lauren Hayes, Mikie Harris, Josie Wirtz and Amelia Jones. The men’s team will look to have John Ward lead the way with Jackson Leech, Marlin Young, Andrew Castano and Michael Smith close behind.
