Knoxville, TN. The Clemson Tigers rowing team competed in their first regatta of the fall 2022 season at Oak Ridge Rowing on Saturday. The Tigers had boats represented in the 1N8+, 2N8+, 1V8+. 2V8+, as well as four boats in the Varsity Open Fours. Clemson medaled in each race that they competed in, earning eight total.
Clemson’s Novice started the day off strong for the Tigers, as both boats medaled. 1N8 finished first at an impressive time of 17:50.4. 2NB followed shortly behind and finished third at 20:19.8.
The Varsity Eights took to the water next for Clemson. Finishing at 17:09, Clemson’s 1V8 came in second. Meanwhile, 2V8 finished fourth at 18:10.4.
The Novice continued to impress in the Novice fours as 1N4 earned first at 20:25.2 and 2N4 earned second at 21:18.1. Varsity would wrap up race day for the Tigers with the Open Fours. The Tigers placed first through third with Clemson A finishing at 18:37.1, Clemson B at 18:52.8, Clemson D at 19:06.8, and then Clemson C at 19:20.9 for fifth.
“This was a solid first road test for our team” said Head Coach Stephen Wong. “We got to see this new squad perform under racing conditions and came away with some great wins as well as some much needed racing experience.”
Up Next, the Clemson Tigers head to Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the Head of the Charles competition on October 22-23.
