Tigers Hang on to National Rankings– In the latest Speedo America’s College Swimming Coaches Association Top 25 Coaches Poll released January 29, the Lady Tigers are holding on to their seat in the rankings, dropping down to #19 from #17.

Making Their Mark– According to the College Swimmming Coaches Association of America’s College Quick 25 the Clemson swimming team holds 16 of the fastest times in the country. Seven of these times consist of relays, while the other nine are individual top times. Jennifer Mihalik holds a total of four times on the list, as teammate Erin Schatz is next with three.

Lady Tigers to Defend ACC Title–The Clemson women’s swimming and diving team will be heading to Charlottesville, VA February 19-21 in hopes of gaining another ACC title. Last year’s title was the first since 1989, but the fourth for the women’s swimming team. The Lady Tigers defeated six-time reigning champ North Carolina in its own pool to win the ACC Championship. Unfortunately, the women’s only ACC loss this season has been to the Tarheels. In the latest ACC Top Performers List, Clemson holds nine first-place rankings in the ACC and six second-place spots.

Men Head to the ACC Championships–The men head to the ACC Championships in Charlottesville, VA February 26-28 with a seventh-place finish in the regular season standings.

Freshman Razvan Petcu is a prominent contender for the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. He currently holds the second fastest time in the conference in the 100 with a time of 44.68 and the third fastest in the 50 with a 20.50.

Tim Collis, another freshman, holds the second top spot of the ACC in the 100 butterfly with a 50.06.

The freestyle relays hold the second fastest time in the 200 and third fastest in the 400.

Men Win First ACC Meet– The men’s swimming and diving team ended the regular season with a 146.50 – 78.50 victory over ACC opponent Georgia Tech. The Tigers defeated the Yellow Jackets in nine out of 13 eventswith a 1-2-3 finish in eight of them.

Wes Morrow won the the 1000 freestyle with a personal best time of 9:50.36. Chris Moro came in second with a time of 10:03.19.

The 400 medley relay of Tim Collis, Jano Dubreuil, Razvan Petcu and Will Rogers took first with a time of 3:25.65.

The Tigers dominated the sprints with a winning time of 1:44.34 (Will York) in the 200 freestyle, 21.17 in the 50 freestyle (Mike Pridemore) and 46.34 in the 100 freestyle (Razvan Petcu).

Andy Garrett had a personal best in the one-meter diving competition with 11 dives, as he placed second with a score of 365.62.

Pridemore finished first in the 200 butterfly (1:55.51), as teammate Adam Porter collected first in the 200 backstroke (1:54.29).

Junior Matt Maurer came in first in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:16.98, as well as the 500 freestyle (4:49.05).

Seniors Scott Ayer, John Dunham, Dan Hoeller, Matt Nelson, Sasha Novozhilov, P.J. Olson and Sean Stockton were recognized during their last home meet. This was the last meet of the season.

Tigers Split Meet with Wolfpack– The Lady Tigers added another ACC victory to their record as they trampled N.C. State 150-93 January 31 at Casey Aquatic Center in Raleigh. The men were defeated by the Wolfpack 152-91.

This was the last meet for the Lady Tigers before they have to defend their ACC title at the conference meet February 19-21.

The women’s team captured nine out of 13 first place spots for the win. The 200-yard medley relay team (Mihalik, Goetz, Suppinger, Lowry) took first and added their time as the third best of the season (1:47.65). Wendy Henson was the only dual winner of the day with victories in the 100 freestyle (51.57) and 200 freestyle (1:50.44). Amy Suppinger not only won first in the 100 butterfly, but she also had a personal best of 57.25, which landed her third on the season’s top times list.

Although the men’s team was defeated, the relay teams had an extraordinary day. The 200 medley relay (Collis, Hoeller, Pridemore, Petcu) swam a season best time of 1:33.27. The 200 free relay team (Rogers, Stockton, Novozhilov, Pridemore) had the third top time of the season in 1:25.11. The only indiviual dual event winner of the day was Razvan Petcu in the 100 freestyle (45.51) and 50 freestyle (20.89).

Swimmers Dive into Record Books– Andy Garrett tallied up a season best with a score of 365.62 in the one-meter diving.

This season produced seven new all-time top 10 times for the men. Sophomores Rob Etheridge, Mike Pridemore and Wes Morrow claimed a spot on the list, as freshmen Tim Collis and Razvan Petcu made their splash into Clemson history.

Correction–In the meet against the West Virginia on January 3 the Lady Tigers 400 medley relay team (Zappa, Jankowska, Glenn, Kupiec) had a time of 3:57.29. The time stated previously of 3:37.29 was in error.
