Clemson Swimming and Diving Competes Against South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Clemson swimming and diving teams competed at the University of South Carolina Friday afternoon. The Gamecocks swept the Tigers as the South Carolina women won 160-83 and the Gamecock men’s team defeated Clemson 144-98.

On the women’s side, the Tigers’ 400 medley relay teams took first and second. Kate Walker, Elise Thieler, Mandy Commons and Christine Woodruff claimed the event with a time of 3:51.32. The Tiger team of Christine Woodruff, Ginny Kirouac and Catherine Blaney finished second in the 400 free relay.

Clemson men’s 400 medley relay teams also claimed first and second in that event. The team of Mark Henly, Mark Henly and Gregor Govse were the only individual event winners for the Tigers. Henly won the 200 back with a time of 1:50.39 while Govse won the 200 breast in 2:03.11. Rob Kummer finished second in the 200 fly in 1:53.70, and the Tigers’ 400 free relay of Drew Scheerhorn, Matt Wilson and Brent Hitchocock were second in 3:06.31.

Clemson swimming and diving will return to action when the teams compete at the Georgia Invitational Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Athens, GA.
