Clemson Sweeps Two Matches in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Clemson women’s tennis team swept two matches on Tuesday afternoon at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif., defeating Bowling Green 7-0 and Towson 4-0. With the two victories, the Tigers improved to 8-9 on the season.

The Tigers got out to a good start in doubles play, with Ally Miller-Krasilnikov and Sydney Riley winning 6-1 at No. 2, followed by Marie-Alexandre Leduc and Fernanda Navarro winning 6-2 at No. 1 to clinch the point. The momentum continued into singles play, as all six Tigers won in straight sets, with Riley at No. 4, Alex Angyalosy at No. 6 and Leduc at No. 1, picking up the first three singles points. Tate Schroeder, who returned to the lineup for the first time since Feb. 22, earned a solid 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles, while Navarro and Miller-Krasilnikov completed the Clemson sweep at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

For the second time on the day, Leduc and Navarro and Miller-Krasilnikov and Riley won their matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point for the Tigers. Laura Marti opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6, followed by Leduc’s 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 1. Schroeder clinched the 4-0 victory with the Tigers by winning her No. 5 singles match, 6-2, 6-0.

OF NOTE

  • Senior Marie-Alexandre Leduc was 2-0 in singles play on the day, and improved to 8-6 in dual matches. The eight dual wins put her in a tie for the team lead in dual singles victories.
  • Fellow senior Fernanda Navarro was 1-0 in singles and is now 8-5 on the season, and is tied with Leduc for the team lead in dual singles wins.
  • Junior Tate Schroeder returned to the Tigers’ lineup today, for the first time since Feb. 22. Schroeder’s return was successful, as she picked up two solid wins in singles play.
  • Senior Ally Miller-Krasilnikov was 1-0 on Tuesday, and has now won three straight singles matches.
  • Leduc and Navarro, ranked fourth in the nation in doubles, are now 12-3 in dual matches and 24-6 overall after their two victories on Tuesday.
  • Miller-Krasilnikov and Sydney Riley are 5-6 after their two doubles wins, and, after starting the season 1-6, have now won their last four matches in a row.

UP NEXT
The Tigers return to action and conference play in 10 days, when they face two more top-25 conference opponents on the road. The team meets No. 25 Miami in Coral Gables on Friday, March 29 and No. 15 Florida State in Tallahassee on Sunday, March 31.
