Clemson Scores Final 11 Runs in 16-5 Win Over Furman Wednesday

Clemson, SC – Clemson scored 11 unanswered runs over the seventh and eighth innings of a 16-5 victory over Furman on Wednesday in front of 2,875 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers, ranked #20 in the country, tallied 16 hits in the win. Clemson also improved to 11-0 in Kris Harvey’s last 11 starts. Clemson improved to 31-18 overall, while Furman dropped to 17-30 on the season.

Kris Harvey’s. Sipp struck out five, while also reaching base five times in the contest. He began the game in left field. He was 2-5 with three runs scored, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. Ryan Hodinka (3-3) suffered the loss after giving up four unearned runs over 1.2 innings.

The game featured 40 players used by both teams combined. Every Tiger starter had at least one hit, with five recording multiple-hit efforts. Brad McCann and Lou Santangelo combined to go 5-8 with five RBIs.

Furman scored a run in each of the first two innings. In the first, A.J. Davidiuk led off with a double. He then scored following a pair of groundouts. In the second, Will Stembridge doubled to left field. Matthew Betsill scored from first, as he beat out the tag of Santangelo after the throw from the outfield missed the cutoff.

Clemson scored four runs in the third inning. Garrick Evans doubled to lead off the inning, and advanced to third on an error by the outfield. Sipp doubled to left to plate Evans. Then, Sipp scored on an RBI single from McCann. Santangelo followed with a RBI single through the left side. The fourth run scored after Andy D’Alessio blooped a single down the left field line.

The Tigers added a run in the fourth inning, but stranded two more. Sipp reached on an error at second base for the second time in the game. He advanced to second on a single by Travis Storrer, then scored on a sharply hit RBI single by McCann. Furman cut the lead to 5-3 after Davidiuk hit his second home run of the season.

Furman tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning. The Paladins got two runs on an RBI single by Will Stembridge. His single to right center plated Dominic Franchini and Sam McLain.

The Tigers were quickly two away in the bottom of the seventh, but Colvin reached second on a throwing error by Paladin shortstop Davidiuk. Colvin scored moments later on an RBI single by Evans. Then, Sipp slapped a shot to left center field to score Evans from first. Santangelo hit a two-RBI double to right field to score runs eight and nine. Harvey came through with his first hit of the ballgame, a single to left to score McCann and Santangelo. Clemson exploded for six runs in the inning, all with two outs.

Clemson added five insurance runs in the eighth. Brady Everett, who relieved Santangelo at catcher, walked with the bases loaded. Then, a passed ball allowed pinch runner C.J. Gaddis to score from third. John Ingram came in as a pinch hitter, and drilled a three-RBI double to right center.

Clemson returns to Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Wednesday for its final home game of the regular season. The Tigers will host College of Charleston in a game scheduled to start at 7:15 PM.
