Clemson Posts 196.550 Against Alabama

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Gymnastics program posted a 196.550, its fifth-best score in its young history, in its matchup with preseason-No. 8 Alabama on Friday night in Littlejohn Coliseum. The Tigers improved by nearly half a point from Sunday’s season-opener against Towson. The Crimson Tide (1-0) scored a 197.475 in their season opener. 

Tara Walsh scored a 9.85 or above on vault (9.85), beam (9.85) and a career-best 9.875 on floor. Ella Cesario and Quinn Kuhl each posted career-best 9.900s on beam and Brie Clark’s 9.925 on floor closed the meet with an exclamation point, her second floor title in as many meets and the 14 floor victory of her Clemson career. 

Kuhl set a career-best in a second consecutive week, as the reigning ACC Specialist of the Week posted a 9.900 on bars in Sunday’s meet against Towson. Clemson held its first “Light Up Littlejohn” night, and welcomed 7,854 fans on the evening.

Vault: 49.025

Madison Minner opened the meet for the Tigers with a 9.825 with her Yurchenko tucked 1.5. Brie Clark followed with a 9.775 and competed a Kasamatsu in her second collegiate vault appearance. Maggie Holman competed on vault and earned a 9.750. Eve Jackson was next and scored a 9.825. Senior Tara Walsh led the Tigers and rounded out the scoring with a 9.850. 

Bars: 49.200

Takoda Berry (9.775) started off on bars for the Tigers. Lilly Lippeat followed and led Clemson with a score of 9.875. Hannah Clark, Ella Cesario, and Quinn Kuhl each added strong performances at 9.850 each. 

Beam: 49.075

Ella Cesario and Quinn Kuhl led the way for the Tigers with their matching 9.900s. Tara Walsh (9.850), Lilly Lippeatt (9.725), and Hannah Clark (9.700) all contributed and helped boost the Tigers into the final rotation.  

Floor: 49.250

All six competitors in the lineup put up a 9.800 or higher, with Brie Clark’s 9.925 leading the way in the anchor spot. Her score tied for the third-highest of her career. Tara Walsh posted a career-best 9.875 in the fifth spot, while Maggie Holman and Lilly Lippeatt each added 9.825s. Madison Minner and Even Jackson’s 9.800 rounded out the floor performances for the Tigers.

The Tigers next take to the road to compete against NC State in Raleigh on Jan. 17, and then travel to Stanford for a meet on Jan. 25. The next meet in Littlejohn Coliseum is Jan. 30 against UNC in Clemson’s Pink Meet.
