Clemson Men’s Cross Country Team Captured State Title, Clemson Invitational Crown

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s cross country team captured its first team title of the season and its second top-two finish in as many meets with Saturday’s victory at the Clemson Invitational/South Carolina Collegiate Championships. Clemson won the event with 17 points, followed by UNC Greensboro’s 74-point performance. Emory took third place with 85 points and Western Carolina finished fourth with 86 points. Gardner-Webb accrued 162 points, Morehouse had 176 points and Charleston Southern tallied 208 points. South Carolina State accumulated 225 points for eight place and Southern Wesleyan finished ninth with 227 points.

In the 2004 South Carolina Collegiate Championships, Clemson claimed first place with 15 points and Charleston Southern was second with its 65-point total. Southern Wesleyan took third place with 77 points and South Carolina State was fourth with 85 points. Itay Magidi was the individual state champion, and all nine Tigers who competed earned all-state honors.

Itay Magidi claimed his first collegiate cross country title with a time of 24:45.20 over the 8K course, while teammates Matt Clark and Matt Pimentel took second and third places with times of 24:52.30 and 25:16.70, respectively. Ryan Fenton was fifth for the Tigers with his time of 25:25.80, followed by Brian Soder in sixth place in 25:33.50. Jim Wahl crossed the finish line in 25:37.60 and Sean Reilly clocked a 25:39.30 to take eight place. Clay Pendleton finished 11th of 77 runners with a time of 26:00.30 and Greg Isaacs completed the race with a time of 26:13.00 to finish 13th.

The Tigers return to action on Sept. 25, as they travel to the Winthrop Invitational.
