Clemson in Fifth Near End of Second Round of UNC Wilmington Seahawk Intercollegiate

Clemson, SC—Andrew Swanson shot an opening round 70 and is six-under par through 16 holes on his second round to lead Clemson at the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall Dye Course in Wilmington, NC.    The 17-team field completed the first round, then golfers completed between 13 and 17 holes of their second round before darkness halted play.

The tournament on the par 72 course that measures 7,031 yards will be finished tomorrow with the completion of the second round and the third round.

Clemson is in fifth place,  but is just five shots out of second.  TCU has the lead at 19-under par while Stetson is second at -13.

Swanson, who leads the Tigers in stroke average for the year, stood in second place in the individual race at eight-under-par when play was halted due to darkness.  He is second to Matt Gauntlet of Stetson who was at -11 three 16 holes of his second round.

Swanson had an opening round 70 that included seven birdies.   He was then six -under par for the 16 holes  including an eagle three on the 18th hole in is second round.    His 12 total birdies so far are second in the 92 player field.

Jonathan Nielson had a great first round with the exception of one hole.  The junior shot a one under par 71, but he had eight birdies, tied for the most in a round by a Clemson golfer this year.  He had a 10 on a par five hole that ruined his round.  He is -3 on his second round and is in a tie for 16th in the individual race after 16 holes of his second round.

Kian Rose had a one-under par 71 in the opening round thanks to three birdies on his first nine,  and nine pars on the back nine.  He is one over par on his second round thanks to birdies in three of his last four holes.

Thomas Higgins had an opening round 75 and was two over par through 15 on his second 18 when play was halted.   Senior Zack Gordon had an opening round 75, then had a triple bogey on his first hole on the second 18.  But, he has scored three-under-par since that first hole and is even par for his second 18 through 15 holes.
