Clemson in 16th Place Entering Final Round of The Goodwin

Clemson, SC—Thomas Higgins fired a 71 on Friday to lead Clemson at The Goodwin tournament at the Stanford University Course at Palo Alto, CA. Clemson had a 295 team score on Friday while playing in the afternoon after shooting even-par 280 on Thursday with a morning tee time.

As a team, Clemson is in 16th place out of 30 teams with a 15 over par 575 entering the final round on Saturday on the par 70 course where Tiger Woods played as a Stanford student from 1994-96. SMU and UCLA have the team lead at five under par for the first 36 holes.

Higgins, who was Clemson’s non counter in the first round, improved 37 positions in the standings with his second round that included three birdies and a two-under par 33 on the front nine. Higgins was by far Clemson’s best player on the front nine and that led to his team best score on Friday.

Andrew Swanson, who was Clemson’s best player in the first round with a 68, was on his way to another strong showing on Friday. He played his first 14 holes at two under par, and moved to fifth place in the medalist race. But he had a double bogey six on the sixth hole, then a triple bogey eight on the seventh hole. His last hole was halted due to darkness and will finish on Saturday.

Kian Rose had a second round 75, while Lucas Augustsson had a 76 and freshman Rich Wills had a 77. Freshman Colin Salema had a 76 playing as an individual.
