Clemson in 12th Place after Two Rounds of Valero Collegiate

CLEMSON, S.C. — Kian Rose had six birdies and shot a second-round 73 to lead Clemson at the Valero Collegiate at the TPC San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday. Clemson is in 12th place out of 16 teams in the tournament that is being played at the site of the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open.

The course played two shots more difficult on average on Sunday compared to Saturday’s opening round for the 90 players from around the country. The field includes 10 teams that played in the NCAA National Tournament  last year.

Rose, the redshirt senior from South Africa, has rounds of 70 and 73 so far and is in a tied for 22nd place entering Monday’s final round. He has 11 birdies through two rounds, seventh in the field. He finished the round with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes, one of seven players toy accomplish that feat on Sunday.

Freshman Rich Wills had the second best round of the day among Tigers with a two over par 74. He had a team best 14 pars to go with one birdie and three bogeys. Wills has had rounds of 72-74 and his 146 total is tied for 48th.

Classmate Colin Salema is Clemson’s second best golfer through 36 holes with a score of even par 144 after rounds of 69-75. He is tied for 33rd in the individual race.

Andrew Swanson and Thomas Higgins both had rounds of four over par 76 on Sunday. Swanson had a 71 in the first rounds and his 147 total through two rounds is tied for 49th. Higgins has had rounds of 77 and 76 and his 153 total is 78th.

Clemson had a 282 in the first round as a team, six under par, and shot 298 on Sunday for a 580 total through 36 holes on the par 72 course that measures 7034 yards, 401 yard shorter than it played for the Valero Texas Open last April.

Junior transfer Lucas Augustsson had a 79 on Sunday and stands at 153 through two rounds. He is playing the tournament as an individual.

The final round will be played on Monday. Live scoring will be available on golfstat.com.
