Clemson Notes:

  • The Clemson men’s tennis team opens the 2019 season on Saturday, Jan. 19 with a doubleheader against The Citadel (10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) at home in Clemson, S.C. at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.
  • Saturday’s matches will be the first ever men’s tennis matches in the history of the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility, which opened its doors in November 2018. The facility is named in honor of Ed and Jane Duckworth, dedicated friends and supporters of Clemson University, Clemson Athletics and Clemson Tennis.
  • Clemson’s 2019 roster is made up of one senior, four juniors, one sophomore and five freshmen.
  • Reed Rabideau (West Palm Beach, Fla.) is the lone senior on the team and serves as team captain.
  • Junior Simon Baudry (Bordeaux, France) had a strong fall season, which included going 4-0 in qualifying matches and earning a spot in the main draw of the Players Choice Open ITF Futures event in Birmingham, Ala.
  • Baudry had an impressive 2017-18 season as well, in which he went 22-9 overall (15-7 in dual matches) in singles play and earned All-ACC second team honors.
  • Yizhou Liu (Nanjing, China) is back for his sophomore season, after going 14-6 in dual matches in 2018 as a January enrollee.
  • Carlos Kelaidis is the fourth player returning from the 2018 squad. Kelaidis was a mainstay in the singles and doubles lineups a season ago, and the Glyfada, Greece native is now back for his junior year with the Tigers.
  • The duo of Baudry and Liu made a hard-fought run to the doubles quarterfinals at the ITA Carolina Regional Championship in Chapel Hill, N.C. during the 2018 fall season.
  • Two transfers Gabriel Diaz, a junior from Gijon, Spain and Loyola Marymount, and Pierre-Louis Dodens, a junior from Geneva, Switzerland and Arizona State, have joined the squad for the 2018-19 season.
  • Five freshmen Mike Agee (Atlanta, Ga.), Teodor Giusca (Bucharest, Romania), Cole Gordon (Jacksonville, Fla.), Jacob Jahn (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) and Matteo Vialmin (Montreux, Switzerland) are also new to the team for 2018-19.
  • Head Coach John Boetsch begins his third season at the helm of the Tiger program. Boetsch was an All-ACC selection when he played for Clemson in 2003 and 2004 and served as an assistant coach/associate head coach for the Tigers for eight seasons before being named head coach in June of 2016.
