CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Athletics, IPTAY and University officials will celebrate the groundbreaking of a new football complex on Friday afternoon. Construction of the new complex will begin in December with a targeted opening date of February 2017.
The new 140,000 square-foot facility recently received final approvals from the Clemson Board of Trustees and all government agencies. The $55 million project will be financed completely by the athletic department and IPTAY, including $19.5 million of athletic revenue bonds along with private support.
Plans for the complex include a new lockerroom, meeting rooms and coaches’ offices along with strength and conditioning, sports medicine and dining areas, all located next to the indoor practice facility and existing practice fields.
“We are very excited and very appreciative of the approval of this project and a new day-to-day home of our program,” said Head Coach Dabo Swinney. “While the WestZone has been a great addition to our program the last six years, this new complex will be the home of Clemson football for a very long time. It will allow our operation to be in one place, which will be a great benefit to our student-athletes, coaches and football administration. This complex will be one of the best in the nation and allow us to continue our pursuit to be the best program in the country.”
“This project is the next step in our Expand and Enhance facilities upgrades, and will be a huge step forward not only for our football program but for each of our sports,” Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said. “We’ve begun studies on how best to utilize the WestZone to most effectively impact each of our student-athletes, and we sincerely appreciate the support of IPTAY and all of our donors who will make this new complex a reality.”
