Clemson Freshmen Dominate Against Cornhuskers

Box Score

Lincoln, Neb. – The Tigers pulled off the 2-0 victory in enemy territory as they shutout the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Barbara Hibner Stadium.

“Great win tonight! Our team showed true grit and character,” head coach Eddie Radwanski said. “Everybody stepped up tonight and raised their game.”

True freshman netminder Hannah McLaughlin got just her second start of her collegiate career against the Huskers where she left Nebraska scoreless. McLaughlin faced five shots on goal in the first 45 minutes of play, but remained steady throughout the extent of the match-up saving all eight that came her way.

“Just really proud of Hannah McLaughlin,” Radwanski added on the freshman. “She was there when we needed her and made great saves when called upon. A gutty performance for a freshman.”

Play remained quiet for a majority of the competition before freshman Harper White broke the deadlock by knocking in her first collegiate goal off a chip shot just inside the box. Joining White, Caroline Conti added her name to the scoresheet in the 84th minute, marking her first goal in a Clemson jersey.

With their win in the midwest, it marks the first road victory of the year for Clemson as they are set to take on the Creighton Bluejays next in Omaha. Kick-off against the Bluejays will be on September 1st at 1 p.m. ET.

After the conclusion of their Nebraska trip, Clemson will be back at home for the next six games, starting off with a First Friday showdown against the Oregon Ducks.
