Clemson Finishes Fourth At Palmetto Intercollegiate

Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson women’s golf team closed out the final day of competition at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C., finishing fourth of 11 teams with a 904 team total through the 54-hole event.

Wake Forest claimed the team title with a 10-over-par, 874 score while the Demon Deacons’ No. 2 player and Golfstat’s No. 11, Rachel Kuehn, was crowned the individual champion.

Virginia, Duke, and Clemson rounded out the closely contested second, third and fourth place positions with team scores of 38, 39, and 40-over-par, respectively.

Clemson and the eventual champions, Wake Forest, were the only two schools to break team totals of 300 each of the last two rounds.

The Tigers’ top golfer, No. 63 Ivy Shepherd, finished the event tied for the sixth position alongside East Carolina’s No. 71 Dorthea Forbrigd with a seven-over, 223 score. Shepherd claimed her first top-10 finish of the spring season and the fourth of her career after rounds of 78-73-72.

Clemson junior, Alexandra Swayne, also secured a solid finish with her first top-10 placement of her career following rounds of 80-72-74 for a 225 total through the 54-hole event. Finishing just two shots behind Swayne, sophomore Savannah Grewal entered the clubhouse with a tournament score of 11-over-par, 227 to finish tied for 18th.

After firing scores of 86 and 89 through the first 36 holes on Sunday, freshman Annabelle Pancake returned to the course Monday morning, firing a team-low one-under-par 71. The 18 shot improvement by the Zionsville, Ind. native between the second and final round set a new program record.

The previous record of 16 shots was held by Marisa Messana, who after shooting a 92 in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA National Tournament at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., followed up with a second round 76.

The Tigers will have a quick turnaround as they get set for the FSU Match Up from Feb. 26-28 in Tallahassee, Fla. Last season the Tigers finished tied third of 10 teams in the event which would be their final competition in 2019-20.
