Clemson Finishes Fifth at Nexus Collegiate

Final Results

CLEMSON, S.C. — Zack Gordon finished sixth in the individual race to lead Clemson to a fifth-place team finish at the Nexus Collegiate at Albany Golf Club in Nassau, The Bahamas. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the site of Tiger Woods Hero Challenge that is played each December.

For the third straight day, high winds that at times reached 30 miles per hour had a significant impact on the scores. The stroke average for the 56 golfers over the three rounds was 79.80, one of the highest on record for a team tournament involving Clemson. Six-over-par was the best individual score for the three rounds and Auburn won the team portion with a score of 47-over-par 911.

Clemson finished in fifth place with a 935 score. Ohio State was second at 914, North Florida was third at 927 and Mississippi State was fourth at 931. There were nine teams in the field.

Gordon finished sixth with a score of  10 over par 226 after rounds of 73-78-75. He had nine birdies for the tournament, fourth in the field, and his 5.00 average on par five holes was third best.

Freshman Kian Rose finished 12th to come within one shot of giving the Tigers a second top 10 finisher. Rose had rounds of 80-77-76 to finish at 233 for the three rounds. His 3.20 stroke average on the par three holes was best on the Clemson team.

Kyle Cottam had an even par 72 in the first round and was in the top 10 for the first two rounds, but his 82 in the final round dropped him to 16th. He finished with a 234 total. Like Gordon, he had nine birdies to tie for fourth best in the field.

Jacob Bridgeman, Clemson’s second ranked player in history in career stroke average, had a 242 score for the 54 holes to finish 34th, while Carter Pendley had a 250 score to finish 46th.

Clemson returned to the states Wednesday night and will be back on the course next Sunday at the Camp Creek Invitational in Panama City, Florida. Bridgeman is the defending individual champion. The tournament runs Feb. 20-22 at the Camp Creek Golf Club.
