Clemson, S.C.—Ana Paula Valdes shot a two-over-par 74 on Tuesday and Alice Hewson was the top performer over the three days of the tournament as Clemson finished 14th in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at English Turn in New Orleans, Louisiana. The 17-team field included 10 top 40 teams and 22 of the top 100 players in the nation according to Golfstat.
The tournament was played in windy conditions and only five of the 90 golfers shot under par for the 54 holes. Only two of the teams shot better than 20 over par, and the scoring average for the tournament was 76.8.
Fourteenth-ranked Florida won the event with an 873 score, while 12th ranked Southern California was second at 882. NC State was the highest ranked ACC team, finishing fourth with an 893 figure.
Valdes finished 40th in the individual race with a 229 total after her final round 74 that included three birdies and five bogeys. Hewson had a 77 on Tuesday, but her one under par 71 was the best by a Tiger for he tournament. She finished in a tie for 32nd with a 227 score. She had a triple bogey and a double bogey in the final round, but played the other 16 holes at even par. She played the par three holes at three under for the tournament, tied for the best in the field.
Clemson will return to the course Feb. 26-27 at the Dickson Invitational in Woodland, Texas.
