Clemson Finishes 12th at Wake Forest Invitational

Clemson, S.C.—Andrew Swanson, Alberto Dominguez and Sean Curran all had rounds of 72 on Tuesday to lead Clemson at the Wake Forest Invitational.  The 54-hole event was played at the famed Pinehurst #2 course in Pinehurst, NC.   The Tigers had a 293 team score on Tuesday, sixth best in the field on a day when the scoring average was 74.4 on the par 70 course.

Clemson finished 12th with an 888 total for the 54 holes. Forty-ninth ranked UNC Greensboro was the surprise winner of the tournament that included seven top 50 teams according to the latest Golfstat rankings.

Swanson was Clemson’s top golfer for the tournament with a 218 score, good enough for 28th play.  He and Dominguez each had a team best seven birdies for the event.  Dominguez averaged 3.08 on the par three holes, best among the Tigers and 13th best in the field.  The transfer finished in 36th place with a 220 score for the 54 holes.

Fifth year senior Zack Gordon won this tournament last year, but finished with a 226 score this year for 48th place.   He got his round off to a great start today with an eagle on his first hole, the 11th of his career.

Curran’s 72 was his best round of the tournament and he finished in 53rd place with a 228 score.   Kian Rose, playing in his first tournament of the spring after suffering a wrist injury had a 233 score for the tournament.

Freshman Thomas Higgins played the tournament as an individual and finished in 30th place with a 219 score.
