CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson junior Lucas Augustsson finished 14th with a three under par score of 213 to lead the Tigers to an 11th place finish at the Watersound Invitational at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, FL. All 12 teams played 36 holes on Tuesday to complete the event.
The 12-team field included five ACC teams, four SEC teams and two from the Big Ten. Six teams were ranked in the top 25 entering the tournament, including tournament champion Florida State who shot 26 under par. Luke Clanton, who has had considerable success on the PGA Tour over the last year, won the tournament with a 10-under par score of 206.
Augustsson finished the tournament with rounds of 71-69-73 for his 213 total. He averaged 4.58 on the par five holes for the tournament. His 14th place finish was his best of the year.
Kian Rose was Clemson’s second best golfer with a 219 total after rounds of 71-74-74. He had eight birdies and an eagle over the 54 holes. Rose, who finished 41st, won the Battle at Briar’s Creek in the previous tournament.
Andrew Swanson made a 10-shot improvement in his third round to finish with a four-under par 68 on Tuesday, the low round among Tigers at the tournament. He had eight birdies in that final round, second most by a Clemson golfer in a round this year. At one point he made five birdies in a six hole stretch. He had rounds of 75-78-68 for a 221 total to finish 49th.
Freshman Rich Wills had rounds of 72-79-75 in totaling 226 for his 54 holes. His second round 79 was his first round over 75 all year. He finished 61st overall. Thomas Higgins had a 230 total of the three rounds and finished 70th.
Senior Sean Curran played the event as an individual and finished 59th after rounds of 81-69-75. His second round 69 was the second best of his career.
Clemson returns to action at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Palmetto Club in Aiken March 10-11.
