Clemson Falls to Syracuse

CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior Ani Clark reached 500 career kills and sophomore Devan Taylor tallied 700 career digs as the Clemson volleyball team (11-10, 2-7 ACC) fell to Syracuse (10-9, 6-3 ACC) on Friday evening in three sets. Sophomore Azyah Dailey led the Tigers offensively, clocking 10 kills, and Mckenna Slavik picked up 30 assists.

The Tigers jumped out to a lead in the first set behind Clark and Mia McGrath combining for a block but were trailing 15-14 at the first media timeout. Taylor came up with an ace for Clemson down the stretch and her 700th career dig, and Dailey tabbed a late kill to keep the Tigers in the set, but it wasn’t enough as Syracuse edged Clemson, 25-23.

Sophomore Azyah Dailey led the charge in the second set clocking seven kills to lead both sides. Clark tallied three of her own, including her 500th career kill as the Tigers hit .320 in the set. Unfortunately, it was no match as Syracuse posted a .545 hitting percentage and took the set, 25-17.

The Tigers came out hot in the third set with Clark and Colleen Finney picking up early kills. Finney and Dailey also combined for a block, while Slavik and Becca Micelle had aces to keep the Tigers rolling. Syracuse went on a seven-point run to close the gap and take the lead, which the Orange would maintain for the remainder of the set. Camryn Hannah and McGrath attempted to make a strong push towards the end of the set, but Syracuse would take the set, 25-19.
