Clemson Falls in Four at Boston College

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Clemson volleyball team fell in four sets on Friday night in Power Gym at Boston College, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-17. Clemson had three players reach double-figures in kills in the match, which dropped the Tigers to 11-9 overall and 3-6 in league play. 

Cate Long (12 kills, 12 digs) and Kaylee Martin (12 kills, 14 digs) each tallied double-doubles for the Tigers in leading the Clemson offense, while Colleen Finney added 11 kills on .300 hitting. Setter Mckenna Slavik had 46 assists and guided Clemson to 52 kills and a .235 hitting percentage on the night. Anna Renwick tallied a career-best 22 digs at libero, while Ani Clark and Ava Pritchard finished with seven kills apiece. 

Boston College hit . 274 in the match, and registered 13 service aces. Izzy Clavenna had 13 kills without an error to lead all players, and Amaka Chuklwujekwu had 12 kills on only 19 attempts. 

Clemson fought off three set points in the first set before ultimately falling by two in the opening set. The Tigers would knot the match at a set apiece a key 5-1 run with the score knotted at 14-14 behind a pair of kills and a block from Finney gave the Tigers daylight, and Martin put the set away with a kill. 

Clemson took an early lead in the third, 8-5, and led as late as 13-11 before the Eagles closed, scoring 14 of the final 21 points in the set. An early 7-0 BC run in the fourth set on three aces from Clare Naughton gave the Eagles early momentum. Clemson closed to three at 16-13 later in the set, but the Eagles scored nine of the next 11 to end the match.
