Clemson defeats Longwood 3-1

CLEMSON, SC–Dane Richards scored two goals and assisted on the other Tiger goal in leading 13th-ranked Clemson to a 3-1 win over Longwood in a men’s intercollegiate soccer match at Clemson, SC Tuesday night.

Bryson Moore also finished the night with two assists.

With the win, Clemson improves to 2-0 on the year, while Longwood falls to 0-1-1 this season. The Tigers are ranked 13th according to the latest NSCAA poll.

Clemson scored early in the match as Richards scored from Bryson Moore’s pass with only 1:32 gone.

Longwood tied the match 1-1 as Todd Runey scored off of Leon Malca’s corner kick.

Danny Poe scored the game-winner for Clemson early in the second half. Richards passed the ball to Ryan Roushandel who sent the ball to Poe. Poe scored his first career goal at the 59:02 mark.

Richards scored his second goal of the night with assists by Justin Moore and Bryson Moore to give the Tigers a 3-1 advantage.

“We weren’t sharp in the match,” said Clemson Head Coach Danny Poe did a great job coming off the bench and giving us a spark. We are developing our depth. We had chances tonight, and we did not take advantage. We are going to have to sort things out up front.”
