Clemson Defeats Furman 6-1

GREENVILLE, SC – Clemson defeated Furman 6-1 in a men’s intercollegiate tennis match at Greenville, SC Wednesday evening. With the win, Clemson is now 2-3 on the year. Furman falls to 0-6 this season.

At number-one singles, Yannick Maden improved to 15-4 this season in singles play as he defeated the Paladins’ Andrew Mellow in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. He is now 4-1 in dual match action. Currently, Yannick Maden is ranked 59th nationally this season in singles play.

Dominique Maden defeated Jacob Behal of Furman 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 at number-three singles. The Tigers’ Zachary Rigsby defeated Joel Cook at number-four singles 7-6, 6-1.

Clemson’s Cedric Willems won at number-five singles with a win over Robbie Aru 7-6, 6-2. Wesley Moran won over Tyler Droll of Furman 6-4, 7-6 at number-six singles.

Furman won at number-two singles as Alex Christ defeated Gerardo Meza of Clemson 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Yannick Maden and Zachary Rigsby also played number one-doubles for the Tigers and was victorious over Mellow and Behal 8-4. Maden and Rigsby are now 7-4 on the year and 3-2 in dual match play.

Clemson will play host to Wisconsin Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Tigers’ next action.

Furman is one of Clemson’s oldest opponents having first met in 1923. The two teams met for the 95th time in the series today, Clemson now leads the series 76-18-1.
