Clemson Defeats Florida State 6-1 Saturday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team won the doubles point and five out of six singles matches on Saturday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center to defeat Florida State 6-1. With the win, the Tigers improved to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in ACC play, while the Seminoles dropped to 7-6 (0-4 ACC).

Ayan Broomfield and Fernanda Navarro won their match at No. 1 doubles convincingly, 6-1. Tristen Dewar and Ally Miller-Krasilnikov claimed the doubles point for the Tigers with a 6-2 win at No. 2. Dewar and Miller-Krasilnikov trailed their Seminole opponent 2-0 before rattling off six straight games for the victory.

Clemson took a quick 3-0 lead with straight-set singles victories by Jenny Moinard at No. 6 (6-3, 6-4) and Navarro at No. 2 (6-1, 1-6, 6-1). After Florida State picked up a win at No. 4 singles, Joana Eidukonyte clinched the win for the Tigers with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3. Dewar followed with win at No. 5; she had a 7-5, 6-5 lead in her match when her Seminole opponent retired due to injury. After winning the first set 6-4 at No. 1, Broomfield dropped the second set, 3-6, and then rebounded to win a third-set battle, 7-6(2), to provide the final score of 6-1.

The Tigers return to action in less than 24 hours when they host 30th-ranked Syracuse on Sunday at 10 a.m. The match will be played at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center and admission is free.
