Clemson Closes Fall Schedule at Steelwood Collegiate

CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson will close the fall portion of its 2024-25 schedule this weekend at the Steelwood Collegiate in Loxley, Alabama.  The two-day 54-hole event will be held at the Steelwood Club in Loxley.  South Alabama will serve as the host for the 14-team tournament.   The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.
The field is led by 12th ranked Illinois.  ACC teams in the tournament includes Clemson and Virginia Tech.  Kentucky will represent the SEC, while Nebraska will represent the Big Ten and Kansas State will represent the Big 12.  Other teams in the field include East Carolina, Chattanooga, Rice, Louisiana Tech, Troy, Memphis, Kennesaw State and host school South Alabama.
Jordan Byrd will have three seniors and two freshmen in his lineup for the tournament that will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. central time on Saturday.
Leading the way is senior Andrew Swanson, who has a team best 72.22 stroke average for nine rounds so far this year.  The native of Bluffton, SC is coming off an 11th place finish at the Golf Club of Georgia, a performance that included a season best 67 in the second round.    This will be Swanson’s 30th career tournament for the Tigers.  He has five career top 10 finishes and 19 rounds in the 60s.
Kian Rose is a second senior in the Tigers lineup.  The native of South Africa has a 72.33 stroke average so far this year, second best on the team.  This will be Rose’s 32nd career tournament for the Tigers.
Senior Sean Curran will make his second appearance for the Tigers this year, but his first in a stroke play tournament.  He posted a 1-1-1 record in the Barbara Nicklaus Cup three weeks ago, the only match play event of the year for the Clemson team.  Curran has a 76.30 stroke average for his career in seven previous tournaments.
Freshmen Colin Salema and Rich Wills have been steady in the Clemson lineup this year.  They have identical 72.56 stroke averages in three tournaments and nine rounds.  The North Carolina natives have shot 75 or better in all nine rounds.
East Carolina transfer Lucas Augustsson will play in the tournament as an individual.  He has a 74.22 average this year in nine rounds.
