DAVIDSON, NC – Clemson and Davidson played to a 0-0 tie in a men’s intercollegiate soccer match at Davidson, NC Monday night. Clemson is now 1-0-1 on the year, while tonight’s match opened the 2012 season for the Wildcats.In the first half, Clemson came out as the aggressor, taking three shots and four corner kicks in the first 13:20 of the game. None of Clemson’s shots in the first half were on goal.In the second half, Clemson’s offense again started with a lot of fire-power as the Tigers took three shots and one corner kick in the first eight minutes of play.Later in the second half, the Tigers’ Wes Nelson took a shot that was saved in the 74th minute. Austin Savage followed in the 79th minute with a serious attempt that was saved. Clemson’s Alex Stockinger took a shot with only 8:05 left in regulation that was saved by Davidson’s goalkeeper, Matt Pacifici, who finished the night with five saves.In the first overtime period, Clemson’s Iain Smith‘s shot in the 92nd minute was high. Davidson had two attempts on goal early in the first overtime period. The Wildcat’s Brian Mcgue took a shot that was saved by Cody Mizell in the 93rd minute of play.After a corner kick by Davidson’s Alex Givens, Luke Blades took a shot that was also saved by Mizell. Mizell finished the night with four saves.Stockinger took a shot in the 96th minute that was saved by Pacifici, and just moments later Savage took a shot that was also saved. With only :15 seconds remaining in the first overtime period, the Wildcat’s Chris Pettiglio took a header that sailed high over the goal.In the second overtime period, Clemson’s Matt Erasmus took a shot that was blocked by a Wildcat defender with 2:15 left to go. This was the only shot for the Tigers in the second overtime period. Davidson also had a shot blocked for their only attempt as both teams’ defenses played very stingily in the second overtime period.Clemson will participate in the prestigious Indiana Invitational this weekend in the Tigers’ next action. The Tigers will play Indiana on Friday evening and Notre Dame on Sunday. Clemson 0, Davidson 0 (OT)
