Chepngetich Named ACC Indoor Freshman of the Year

CLEMSON, S.C. – Following her incredible first indoor season for the Tigers, Gladys Chepngetich has been named the ACC Indoor Track and Field Women’s Freshman of the Year as announced by the conference office on Thursday.

In the indoor regular season, Chepngetich shined in both the 800 meter and the mile as she did not finish below third-place in either event. At the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational, Chepngetich ran her personal best time in the 800 meter as she was first to cross the line with a time of 2:01.83 which moved her to second all-time on Clemson’s top-10 list just below Olympian Natoya Goule.

At the ACC Indoor Championships, Chepngetich finished third in the 800 meter semifinals to advance herself to the final round of the event. With a time of 2:04.23, the freshman secured a fourth-place overall finish in the 800 meter finals to be named Second Team All-ACC.

With her personal best time of 2:01.83, Chepngetich’s performance ranked her ninth in the nation in the 800 meter which nationally qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships. At the Championships, the freshman ran a time of 2:03.31 to secure a ninth-place overall finish and be crowned a Second Team All-American.

Chepngetich officially became an All-American in both cross country and track and field. The newcomer was also named the 2023 ACC Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year.
