NEW LONDON, N.C.-Defending ACC and NCAA Champion Charles Warren of Clemson shot his second straight round of 68 to take over the individual lead in the 1998 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Chamiponships, held at the Old North State Club at Unwharrie Point. NC State held on to the team lead with a 6-under 282 in round two and is now 19-under par for the tournament.
The Tigers are hot on the Wolfpack’s tail, however, also recording a 6-under 282 in the second round to move to 17 under for the tourney. Georgia Tech stands in third place at 8-under (568), followed by North Carolina (574), Virginia (576), Wake Forest (577), Duke (578), Florida State (580), and Maryland (585).
Warren leads all individuals with a two-round total of 8-under 136, followed closely by Clemson’s Jonathan Byrd and Carolina’s Don Hill, who are both at 6-under par. The Tigers’ John Engler is fourth at 5-under, while eight players are tied for fifth place at 4-under par.
Final round action continues on Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the par-72, 7,102 yard course at Old North State
