Chargers Claim Witherspoon From Cowboys

April 23, 2002

SAN DIEGO (AP) – The Chargers claimed fullback Terry Witherspoon off waivers from Dallas on Tuesday, the second time he’s been with the Chargers.

Witherspoon originally joined the Chargers in training camp last year as a rookie free agent from Clemson. He was released prior to the start of the regular season and then re-signed to the practice squad, where he spent the first four weeks.

After being released from the practice squad on Oct. 9, Witherspoon was signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad on Oct. 18.

Witherspoon was signed to Dallas’ active roster and played in the final three games last season. He served primarily as a blocker for running back Emmitt Smith. Witherspoon had one catch for nine yards.
