CHICAGO, Ill. – Clemson men’s soccer defender Patrick Bunk-Andersen was selected in the third round with the 54th overall pick of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC on Monday afternoon. The 2019 draft now marks the sixth straight that has seen a Tiger be selected.
During his four years at Clemson, Bunk-Andersen played in all but one match and started all but one of those on three different NCAA Tournament teams. Finally, his junior year team earned a National Seed in the tournament, and he rounded out his tenure as a team captain this past season.
Bunk-Andersen finished the 2018 season leading Clemson in minutes played, serving as a staple on the back line for every single minute of each of the Tigers’ 17 matches. He his one goal of the season in Clemson’s conference opener at Boston College and recorded his first assist of the year on his senior night against NC State. He also earned the year’s final ACC Defensive Player of the Week award after his efforts against the Wolfpack, a week during which Clemson posted two of their season’s best defensive performances in conference play (a 3-2 defeat of a ranked Syracuse team followed by a 3-0 shutout of NC State).
The Hvidovre, Denmark native was awarded United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Third Team honors for the second straight year following his performance on the field this season, and his 3.66 career GPA off the field earned him a spot on the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region Second Team. He graduated in December with a degree in sports communication.
