Brownell Adds Two More Signees to 2011 Class

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s basketball program announced the signing of a pair of prospects to national letters of intent on Wednesday, the first day of the spring signing period. Devin Coleman, a 6-foot-3 guard from Wynnewood, PA, and K.J. McDaniels, a 6-foot-6 forward from Birmingham, AL, signed with Brad Brownell’s program. They join Clemson’s fall signees, guard T.J. Sapp and forward Bernard Sullivan, as members of the Tigers’ 2011-12 freshman class.

“We’re certainly happy to have these two young men join our basketball program,” Brownell said. “They both come from terrific families and winning basketball programs. Along with T.J. and Bernard, they give us a strong foundation for future success.”

Coleman, a three-star prospect according to ESPNU, led Friends’ Central School to three consecutive independent school state championships. He was a two-time first-team all-state selection, including his senior season in 2010-11 when he averaged 16.2 points per game. He is a four-time All-Friends League selection and finished his career with over 1,500 points.

Coleman was named to the U.S. All-Star roster for this weekend’s Capital Classic, which will be held Saturday in Upper Marlboro, MD. He played one of his best games when he tallied 19 points and 15 rebounds in a narrow loss to USA Today’s No. 2 ranked school, St. Anthony (NJ) on Feb. 6, 2011.

“Devin comes from a winning program and has been in big basketball games throughout his career,” Brownell said. “He’s a fundamentally sound player that can make three-point shots and score off the dribble. He has a high basketball IQ and is used to winning. Those are significant intangibles that we look for in a player.”

McDaniels, the son of former South Alabama player Kevin McDaniels, is a three-star prospect according to most national recruiting services. He is a two-time NACA (National Association of Christian Athletes) All-American, winning the honor in 2010 and 2011. He was named the NACA Most Outstanding Player in 2011 after leading Central Park Christian School to its second consecutive national championship.

McDaniels, who led Central Park Christian to a combined 45-3 record the past two seasons, averaged 18.2 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game as a senior. He was named the 2010 Neosho Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team as well.

“K.J. is an extremely athletic wing player who we feel can make an impact on both ends of the floor,” Brownell said. “He’s a pretty good three-point shooter and an outstanding rebounder. I think our fans will really enjoy watching him play.”
