Broomfield & Eidukonyte Earn All-ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ayan Broomfield was named ACC Freshman of the Year and Broomfield and senior Joana Eidukonyte were named to the All-ACC Second Team, as announced by the conference office on Thursday, April 21.

Broomfield, a rookie from Toronto, Canada, is just the second ACC Freshman of the Year award winner in Clemson history. The first Tiger to earn the accolade was Ani Mijacika in 2007. Broomfield has an 11-9 record in dual matches in 2016, including a 9-7 mark at No. 1 singles. She was 8-6 in ACC regular season play, all at the top position in the singles lineup. Broomfield has five wins over nationally-ranked opponents this season.

Eidukonyte earned the second All-ACC honor of her career, as she was named to the conference’s first team in 2015. The native of Vilnius, Lithuania is 20-15 in singles play and 18-5 in doubles play so far in 2015-16. She has recorded wins over seven nationally-ranked singles opponents and three nationally-ranked doubles teams. In doubles play, she and freshman Fernanda Navarro recently teamed up to defeat the nation’s top-ranked doubles team, Carter and Kay of North Carolina, on April 15.

She doesn’t know it yet because she’s in the middle of singles play, but Ayan was just named ACC Freshman of the Year! #dalé #SolidOrange #accwten
