Bornkamp, Hancuff Named to Preseason All-ACC Team

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson senior goalkeeper Hensley Hancuff and sophomore midfielder Megan Bornkamp have been named to the 11-member Preseason All-ACC Team as voted by the league’s head coaches, the conference office announced Thursday. The announcement marks both Bornkamp’s and Hancuff’s first Preseason All-ACC honor.

Bornkamp returns after a stellar freshman campaign, being named a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American, Third Team All-ACC, ACC All-Freshman Team, United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Atlantic Region and earning a United Soccer Coaches Division I Women’s Player of Distinction Award. She started in every match and led the team in goals and game-winning goals with eight and four, respectively.

Hancuff saw success in her first season in the orange and purple as she started in 13 games and registered 59 saves. After holding Virginia Tech and Virginia scoreless and picking up eight saves, she earned her first ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor. Hancuff finished as the ACC leader for save percentage (.843) and was critical in the team’s Elite Eight run as she recorded game-clinching PK saves against Rutgers (5-3) and UCLA (6-5).

In addition to the individual accolades, the Tigers are projected to finish fifth in the ACC, as voted on by the 14 ACC head coaches in the preseason poll.

The top eight teams in the final league standings will advance to the ACC Championship, which begins with quarterfinal matches at campus sites on Sunday, Oct. 31. The semifinals and final are scheduled for Nov. 5 and Nov. 7 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
