CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson defensive stalwarts Vic Beasley and Stephone Anthony were both named to All-America teams by noted college football analyst Phil Steele today when he announced his preseason teams for 2014. Beasley was named a first-team All-American by Steele and Anthony was a fourth-team selection.
Steele’s preseason All-ACC team included Beasley, Anthony and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett on the first team. Clemson and Florida State were the only schools with three selections on his first-team defense.
Defensive end Corey Crawford and safety Jayron Kearse were Tigers on Steele’s third team, while senior linebacker Tony Steward was selected fourth-team. Clemson running back Wayne Gallman and wide receiver Charone Peake were fourth-team selections on the offensive side of the ball.
Beasley was earlier named a first-team preseason All-American by Lindy’s, Athlon and Sporting news. Lindy’s ranked Beasley as the number-one defensive end in the nation and Sporting News listed him as the preseason ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
Last year Beasley had 23 tackles for loss and 13 sacks and was a consensus first-team All-American as he helped the Tigers to an 11-2 record and number-seven final ranking in the USA Today Poll. Beasley is one of three returning consensus All-Americans in college football for 2014. The others are Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and Stanford receiver Ty Montgomery.
