Baseball Sinks East Tennessee State, 18-1

The Clemson Tiger Baseball Team defeated East Tennessee State (9-14) Thursday evening at Tiger Field by a score of 18-1. Clemson scored in six of eight innings in the game. The Tigers improve their season record to 16-11.

Clemson exploded in the first inning, scoring the first five batters that it sent to the plate. The Tigers scored six more runs in the fourth inning behind two-run singles by Khalil Greene and Bradley LeCroy, and an RBI single by Brian Holstad.

In the sixth inning, Clemson designated hitter Patrick Boyd pounded a three-run homerun over the right field fence scoring Jeff Kane and Kyle Frank. Boyd also hit a solo homer in the second, and finished the evening going 2-2 with four RBI, five runs scored, and three walks.

Freshman left-hander Thomas Boozer (4-3) earned the win for the Tigers. Boozer allowed only one run in 5.0 innings for Clemson. Four Tiger relievers pitched an inning a piece to conclude the game, none of which allowed a hit or run.

ETSU’s only run came in the second inning when Lance Torbett scored on a single by Chuck Dewald. Chad Wallace (0-2) took the loss for the Buccaneers. ETSU used seven pitchers in the game.

The Tigers will take on Miami (FL) Friday night at 7 pm at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, SC. The two teams will also play Saturday at 3 pm and Sunday at 1 pm in Fort Mill.
