CLEMSON, S.C. — Lucas Augustsson shot a second consecutive three-under par 69 and finished in seventh place in the medalist race in a strong field to lead Clemson to a tie for seventh place out of 12 teams at the Invitational at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn. The field included seven of the top 10 teams in the nation.
Mississippi won the tournament with a team score of 10-under-par 854, while Virginia and Auburn tied for second at five-under par 859. Vanderbilt was fourth at 862 and Oklahoma was fifth at even par 864. Pepperdine finished sixth at four over par 868, while Clemson and Tennessee tied for seventh at 882. Duke was ninth at 885, host school UT Chattanooga was 10th at 900, Marquette was 11th at 901 and College of Charleston was 12th at 905.
Augustsson, a senior in his second year at Clemson after transferring from East Carolina, had rounds of 75-69-69 for a 213 score. His seventh place finish was the second best of his Clemson career and best since a third place at The Palmetto last year. He became the first Clemson golfer to score in the 60s in two rounds in the same tournament at The Honors Course. Augustsson’s 2.92 scoring average on par three holes was second best in the field of 69 players. His 13 birdies were the most among Clemson golfers.
Oscar Bredkjaer shot a 74 on Tuesday and finished tied for 19th with a 218 score. It was his second straight top 20 finish, as he finished 20th at the Myrtle Beach Classic in the season opener. His 68 in the first round was the best by a Clemson golfer in the tournament. He had 10 birdies and had a strong 4.0 average on par four holes. He also led the Tigers in par four scoring with a 3.97 figure.
Rich Wills was Clemson’s third best golfer for the tournament with a 221 score for 54 holes. He finished 28th with rounds of 69-73-79 and gad 10 birdies and a team best 4.83 average on par five holes.
Thomas Higgins had a 79 in the final round and finished 58th with a 233 score, while Coin Salema had a final round 77, and had a 236 score for his 54 holes. He finished 63rd.
Clemson will return to the course September 29-30 at the Bryan Brothers Collegiate in Columbia, S.C.
