Adams Breaks Single Game Tackle Record

Nov. 22, 1999

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson inside linebacker Keith Adams was credited with 27 tackles after a review of the film from the South Carolina game on Monday. The tackle total is an all-time Clemson single game record, breaking the mark by Ring of Honor member Jeff Davis, who had 24 tackles against North Carolina in 1980.

All official tackle statistics are taken from defensive coaches review of the game film. Adams was credited with 18 first hits and nine assists in Clemson’s 31-21 victory over the Gamecocks.

Adams also had four tackles for loss, including three sacks for -32 yards. He also caused a fumble and had two quarterback pressures.

Monday, for the fifth time this year, Adams was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week. It is the first time in Clemson history that a Tiger player has been a five-time selection in the same year.

The native of College Park, GA now has 176 tackles for the season, including 33 stops behind the line of scrimmage. He also has 16 sacks. The tackle total is just two off the Clemson single season mark of 178 set by Anthony Simmons in 1996. Adams tackle for loss total and sack total are Clemson single season records. The tackle for loss total is an ACC record.

Adams has set five Clemson records this year. In addition to the tackle for loss and sack figures on a season basis, he also has established single game records for tackles, tackles for loss (6) and sacks (4).
