NC STATE Fifth-seeded N.C. State is 17-12 overall, 6-10 and tied for fifth in the ACC…the Wolfpack lead the ACC in bench scoring with 34.7% of its scoring coming from non-starters…N.C. State is fourth in the ACC in rebound margin (+6.3) despite not having one player ranked among the league’s Top 10 rebound leaders; the Wolfpack has been out- rebounded in only four of their 29 games this season…Adam Harrington is averaging 12.0 points per game and is bidding to become the first freshman ever to lead N.C. State in scoring; Kenny Inge is second with an 11.6 per game average…sophomore F Damon Thornton is averaging 6.8 points per game while hitting on 72-of-125 (.576) field goal attempts…third winningest team in Tournament history with a 49-35 (.583) mark…in 1997, became the first No. 8 seed in ACC Tournament history to reach the title game; knocked off the No. 9, No. 1 and No. 5 seeds enroute to the championship contest…6-7 in ACC Tournament play in Charlotte…second only to North Carolina with ten ACC titles…last title run came as a No. 6 seed in 1987… Wolfpack are 23-20 in their opening Tournament game and have won at least one Tournament game 26 times.
VIRGINIA Ninth-seeded Virginia is 14-15 overall, 4-12 and ninth in the ACC…the Cavaliers schedule is rated as the nation’s 30th toughest by the RPI…UVa finished the regular season with a one-point loss to North Carolina and a six-point overtime setback to Georgia Tech… freshman Chris Williams is seventh in the ACC in scoring (16.9), fifth in rebounding (7.4) and fourth in field goal percentage (.514); has scored in double figures in 26 of his 29 games…another Cavalier freshman, Adam Hall, has averaged 15.3 points over his last three games and is third on the team in scoring (10.8)…Donald Hand leads the team in scoring (17.2) and assists (4.1)…Hand, who averaged only 4.7 points per game a year ago, leads the ACC in free throw percentage (.866)…the Cavaliers are bidding to lead the ACC in free throw percentage (.733) for the first time since the 1978- 79 season…Cavaliers are 27-44 in Tournament play and 7-8 in Charlotte…have won at least one game in eight of the last 12 Tournaments and 20 times overall…the school’s only ACC title came in 1976 when they became the first sixth-seeded team to win the ACC title…the Cavaliers have been to the title game only once since 1984 (1994) and six times overall…UVa has had only one ACC Tournament MVP -Wally Walker in 1976.
WAKE FOREST Fourth-seeded Wake Forest is 16-12 overall and fourth in the ACC with a 7-9 league record, marking the seventh-straight year that the Deacons have finished in the top half of the ACC standings (4th place or higher including ties)….Wake leads the ACC with 55 starts by freshmen; 93 percent (130-of-140) of the Deacons starters this year have been freshmen or sophomores….Robert O’Kelley, the team’s leading scorer (17.4) is the only Deacon to have started all 28 games and has led the team in scoring 17 times…Wake has trailed in the second half in nine of its 16 wins this season…sophomore Rafael Viduaretta has been the team’s top rebounder in 13 of the last 16 games and leads the team in rebounding (6.6)… in ACC games only, the Deacons have hit on .745 of their free throw attempts (260-of-349)…Deacons are 36-41 in ACC Tournament play, including a 3-8 record in Charlotte …Wake’s first two ACC titles came back-to-back in 1961 and 1962… ended a 33-year title drought with 1995’s 82-80 overtime win over North Carolina …Deacs have won at least one game 23 times…won two-or-more tournament games five straight years (1960-64)…Deacons have had five ACC Tournament MVPs.
