CLEMSON, S.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference released its preseason poll on Tuesday evening. The Clemson Tigers women’s basketball team was picked to finish in 13th place by the coaches and Blue Ribbon Panel.
Clemson is led by first-year Head Coach Shawn Poppie who is coming off back-to-back Southern Conference championships at Chattanooga and accumulated a 48-18 overall record. Poppie came to the upstate and brought 11 newcomers to this season’s Tiger team.
Among the incoming players is point guard Loyal McQueen. Not a stranger to the ACC, McQueen, a Florence, S.C. native, comes to Clemson following spending two years at Georgia Tech and Alabama, respectively. She has played on teams that have won NCAA tournament games and has advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. McQueen started on last year’s Alabama team that won a game in March Madness.
Mia Moore also transferred to Clemson following an amazing season at UAB. Moore, a 5’6” guard from Alpharetta, Ga., averaged 15 points and nine rebounds per contest last season, all while shooting 37% from beyond-the-arc.
Poppie dipped into the portal to sign last season’s SoCon Defensive Player of the Year in Summah Evans from Mercer. Evans, a six-foot tall forward, shot the ball at an elite 41% clip from outside last season and can defend nearly every position at a high level.
Tessa Miller was an all-conference forward at Belmont last season and decided to finish her basketball career at Clemson. In seven games against power-five competition last season, Miller put up over 14 points, five rebounds, and two assists per game.
Poppie and the Tigers start their season on November 4 against Jackson State. Tipoff is set for 2:30 PM in Littlejohn Coliseum.
