SAN MARCOS, Texas – The No. 18/18 Clemson Tigers dropped the opening game of the States Up Tournament, 4-0, to host Texas State on Thursday night in San Marcos, Texas. The Tigers (4-3) finished the night with seven hits, while the Bobcats (4-2) finished with nine.
Seven different Tigers contributed to Clemson’s hit total, with freshman Sarah Breaux notching the first one of the night in the bottom of the second with sophomore Corri Hicks following with one of her own in the next at bat. Clemson went on to put two runners on in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in both the sixth and seventh innings, but weren’t able to capitalize. In total, the Tigers left eight runners on base throughout the night.
Texas State scored one run in the bottom of the first and added to the mix with two runs in the bottom of the third. The Bobcats put a cap on their scoring in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run.
Junior Sierra Maness got the start and went five innings and struck out four in her first loss of the year. She was replaced by junior Olivia Duncan in the sixth, who finished the game in the circle.
