Clemson, S.C. – Rusne Augustinaite (season-best 21 points and season-high seven rebounds) led the Clemson women’s basketball (15-7, 6-4 ACC) to victory against SMU (8-14, 1-9 ACC), 83-54 at Littlejohn Coliseum on Thursday night.
Playing in front of her mother for the first time in the United States (in over six years), Augustinaite dropped a season-high and team-high 21 points in just 28 minutes, while grabbing a season-high seven rebounds. Senior guard Mia Moore and Rachael Rose joined her in double figures with 15 points apiece. Seven Tigers combined for 12 three-pointers, the ninth time this season Clemson has made 10-plus from behind the arc in a single game.
For the second game in a row, Clemson has doubled its opponent’s rebound total. The Tigers combined to grab a team season-high 50 rebounds. Graduate forward Demeara Hinds led the way with 10 boards, her second game this season registering double-digit rebounds. Moore added nine boards to finish one rebound short of a double-double. Augustinaite and Hadley Periman each grabbed seven of their own.
The Mustangs were led by Anaya Brown, who registered 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDEDThe Tigers took their first lead on a pair of Rose free throws with six minutes left in the first quarter and never looked back. After taking a 12-point lead into halftime, the Tigers would not let SMU within 10 points the entire second half. Clemson led by as many as 34 points in the fourth quarter.
