Tigers Ink Norfolk State University Transfer, Tafari Bishop

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson’s Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Mark Elliott, announced the signing of Tafari Bishop on Monday, Nov. 24. The St. Peter, Barbados, native competes in the 400m and 400m hurdles events and is transferring from Norfolk State to complete his senior year of eligibility.

Coach Elliott’s Thoughts on Bishop

“Tafari is a great addition for our team and will help us at the conference and national levels for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He will make an impact on our 400m, 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay groups. He’s definitely going to be someone that we can rely on in terms of leadership. I credit Coach Lennox on the recruiting as we had multiple candidates we were looking at for the spring, and Tafari was someone who was higher on our list.”

Associate Head Coach Lennox Graham’s Thoughts on Bishop

“Tafari is a great addition to our men’s team roster. He has championship experience, and we are looking forward to having a mutually beneficial relationship. We are very happy to have him in Tiger Town.”

Bishop’s athletic honors include:

  • Team Captain for Norfolk State
  • 2018 Carifta silver medalist
  • 2x 4×400 record holder at Norfolk State
  • 2x representative of Barbados at the Carifta games
  • 2x regional qualifier
  • 5x Junior College All-American

Bishop is the son of Bernard and Kimberley Russell, and has a younger brother, Tyjah, who is a track athlete at NIACC. Once at Clemson, Bishop plans to complete his major of parks, recreation and tourism management.
