Clemson Signs Virginia Standout Laura Fiegel

CLEMSON, S.C. – Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mark Elliott announced the signing of Laura Fiegel on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The St James Performance Academy short-distance standout competes in the 60m, 100m and 200m sprints.

Coach Elliott’s Thoughts on Fiegel

“Laura will be a tremendous addition to our sprint group and to the team as a whole. Her potential is sky-high, and once she matures within our program, she will become a major contributor. Credit goes to Coach Hester for his diligence in recruiting her. Laura had offers from several ACC and SEC schools, but ultimately Clemson was the program that resonated with her personally and felt like the right fit.”

Sprints Coach Tevin Hester’s Thoughts on Fiegel

“I’m thrilled to welcome Laura to our sprint program. She brings a fresh energy to the group, having been a gymnast growing up. Although she’s relatively new to track and field, I’m excited to help her develop and see how she can impact our team. She’s going to be a fantastic addition.”

“I was first introduced to Laura through some excellent coaches back home who are now part of the Nike Elite program. They spoke highly of her and suggested she’d be a great fit for us. As soon as I heard that, I reached out. We built a relationship, and from there everything clicked. She came for a visit, loved the environment, and decided Clemson was the place she wanted to call home for the next four years. I’m excited to see what she’ll accomplish and what we’ll achieve together as a team.”

Fiegel’s athletic honors include:

  • Washington Post All-Met Indoor (2024 & 2025).
  • Top 10 All-Time in Virginia for the 60m and 100m.
  • School record holder in the 55m, 60m, 100m, 200m and 300m.
  • Selected to the Nike National Program (2025/2026).

Fiegel is the daughter of Douglas and Donna, and has six siblings: Richard, Aaron, Olivia, Jonathan, Christina and Caroline. Her family has an extensive athletic background, with her father, Douglas (University of Notre Dame), Aaron (Kenyon College) and Olivia (Iowa) having played collegiate soccer.

“Her family’s experience will also be a valuable asset, helping her prepare mentally for the transition. Of course, she’ll face her own challenges and go through her own journey, but here at Clemson she’ll have the resources and support she needs to navigate it successfully.” – Coach Hester

Once at Clemson, Fiegel plans to major in business management.
