Tigers Use Explosive First Half to Cruise to 81-61 Victory

Godfrey leads with 16 points; Foster totals season-high six assists.

CLEMSON, S.C. – RJ Godfrey (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett/Georgia) led Clemson University men’s basketball with 16 points in an 81-61 win over North Alabama on Monday night in Littlejohn Coliseum. Godfrey finished with six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal.

The Tigers (4-1) controlled much of the opening stanza and took a 45-22 lead into halftime, finishing on a 15-7 run over the final 5:13 of the first half.

Zac Foster (Atlanta, Ga./Woodward Academy) helped pace the Tiger offense with 14 points, but dished out a season-high six assists in the process while grabbing four rebounds. Carter Welling (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon/Utah Valley) nearly totaled his second double-double of the season with 13 points and nine rebounds. Welling added two blocks.

Ace Buckner (Dallas, Texas/La Lumiere School (Ind.) continued his impressive stretch and posted eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in his first career start. Jake Wahlin (Provo, Utah/Timpview/Utah) added a season-best 11 rebounds to go along with eight points in the effort.

Clemson limited North Alabama offensively throughout the game to just 36.7 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from three. The Tigers posted 44 bench points, including 21 second-chance points – aided by a season-high 20 offensive rebounds.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, Nov. 21 when they will play West Virginia in the Shriners Childrens Charleston Classic. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

Notes: Clemson improved to 4-1 with the win and 1-0 all-time against North Alabama … Brad Brownell won his 296th game at Clemson and his 463rd in his career … Clemson grabbed a season-high 20 offensive rebounds … the Tigers produced over 40 bench points (44) for the third time this season … Zac Foster totaled season-highs in points (14) and assists (6), while committing zero turnovers … Jake Wahlin collected a season-best 11 rebounds … RJ Godfrey scored a season-high 16 points with a season-best two blocked shots.
